Social Week March 6, 2013

Even as an introvert, I  do have some weeks where it seems like there is always something going on and people to see. This is one of those weeks. It’s all good fun stuff and I’m getting to hang out with some great people.

One Last Meeting

One Last Meeting

Monday, I met with my A/G Network mentor before she leaves for Africa later this month. We’ve been meeting for about a year on a monthly basis. At first it was a little strange meeting with someone that I’ve never met before. Since she’s been in missions her whole life, I wasn’t sure if we would have anything in common. The great thing is that there is a lot you can learn from people who have walked different roads in life. She’s been able to offer me a whole different perspective on ministry. Plus, she has really great stories about living with no power and running water from time to time. I admire our missionaries so much and what they are willing to do to share the gospel around the world. Her heart and commitment to Africa are inspiring. It was sad to say “good-bye” to our monthly meetings, but thanks to technology, I know we’ll keep in touch. Monday was also a Growth Group night for me so I had some ladies over for our study on One Thousand Gifts. It was a full day!

Hangin' with my niece!

Hangin’ with my niece!

Yesterday, I got the joy of having breakfast with sister-in-law, Andrea, and her kiddos!  It was a great morning. We had doughnuts, which I totally can’t remember the last time I had one. Very tasty! My nephew taught me how to play stick golf on his mom’s phone. Let it be known that anything related to golf I am extremely poor at and this game was no exception. Lucky for me, Carson cheered really loud when I finally got the ball in the hole. It made it worth it. Since this branch of the family tree lives three hours away, it’s always a special treat to see them and hang out.

Today, my sister came over for lunch. I made french toast and she chatted with me while I made no-bake cookies for my class snack. Even though we live within a half hour of each other, her school and work schedule can sometimes be opposite of mine. It was fun to catch up on life and just chill and relax. One of the great things about hanging out with April is that there really is no frills necessary. We sit, we talk, we eat. Nothing fancy. I don’t mind being that kind of hostess!

The big day of the week will be tomorrow when Jeremy and I teach a class at Northwest University. Just call me Professor Amy! Jeremy and I went over the material this morning and I think we’re set. Now we just got to do it. Hopefully it goes well and I can add it to the list of things I’ve accomplished. It’s just one day… I do realize it’s not the same thing as teaching a semester. Baby steps. After the class, we’ll see if traffic allows me to go to a family party that evening. So the socialness just keeps on coming!

Friday we have a dinner plans down south with Jeremy’s brother and his wife. I haven’t seen them in a long time, so it will be great to catch up. We’re going to a new restaurant for Jeremy and I. It will be a bit of a food adventure. I like checking out new places.

I will admit that Saturday is looking pretty good to me. Yes, I will still have church in the evening, but I’ll have the ability to stay in pajamas until late afternoon if I want to. I’ll need a little down time after all this socializing. It’s a good week filled with fun opportunities with awesome people. I probably won’t have much time for blogging, but I promise to let you know how the teaching experience goes. Maybe this will inspire me to get my master’s degree and become a college professor…. who knows!

Walking in My Shoes February 10, 2013

Filed under: Family Time,Recollections — Amy Scott @ 3:58 pm

This weekend I got the treat of spending some time with my nephew. Because he lives across the mountains, I’m never sure how much I’ll see his family in the winter months because of snow in the passes. Every visit is a special treat and any time we can spend together is special and worth it. Being an auntie is so much fun. I love the hugs and snuggles. Yesterday, it was too funny when Carson walked into the kitchen wearing my boots! According to Jeremy, the boots were the first form of footwear he grabbed when it was time to go outside. Jeremy helped him into the boots and suddenly I heard “Look, Aunt Mayme”. What a character! I remember my sister and I taking turns wearing my grandpa’s cowboy boots and how far up our legs they would go. It seems like the perfect childhood memory to walk in the shoes of a family member you love.

Even this simple act reminds me that there are little eyes watching me and I get to be influence in these young lives. I always hope that my niece and nephew will see me as a person of integrity who loves them and wants the best for them. These family ties are important and I look forward to them deepening with time. Being an aunt is honor. Today, our niece, Brinley, was dedicated at church. It’s a sign that the parents, and also the family, are willing to raise their child to know the Lord as best as possible. I love these dedications because it is a great symbol of the role family plays in the life of a child. I want to do my best to encourage faith in these young hearts. I want to do my best to support my family as they parent. It’s a blessing and one that I don’t take lightly. I’m glad Carson wanted to walk in my shoes. Hopefully they lead him in a good direction!

A Slightly White Christmas and Other Holiday Memories! December 27, 2012

Jeremy's snowman!

Jeremy’s snowman!

It’s been a good Christmas holiday! I hope that you had a great time with your family and friends! I know did! This will be the wrap up of all the Christmas blogs. I know that there have been many, but it’s been such a great season to celebrate. I was thinking this week how Christmas really seems silly without Jesus. The hype of shopping and cooking and gift giving just doesn’t make sense without the greatest gift on earth at the center of it all. I can’t imagine celebrating Christmas without Jesus. I am deeply thankful for my Savior. I know that his birth was just one of the steps towards his death and resurrection. Christmas and Easter are so closely linked because without the other each would really lose it’s meaning.

Last Saturday, Jeremy came home from hunting with a giant ball of snow in his truck. He quickly unloaded the snow into our front yard and promptly made a small snowman. My hubby is a very creative and extremely odd at times. Bringing home snow to play with was sweet, but different. I decided that evening that it wouldn’t really be Christmas without cut-out cookies, so I set off my make a batch to share with company the following day. I kept the decorating simple and they turned out quite nicely.

It wouldn't be Christmas without cookies!

It wouldn’t be Christmas without cookies!

Sunday after church, I had the pleasure of going to lunch with my dear friend, Kaly. She was down spending the holiday with her family and I was glad to catch her while she was in the area. We had a yummy lunch of warm soup and bread at a local favorite. We stopped by Starbucks to see my sister at work and to get yet another of the favored red cups! There are only so many left to be had in 2012! Sunday evening, we shared pizza and cookies with my sister and her husband. After our meal, we danced and played card games. It was such a fun social day!

Monday morning, I was up bright and early to head to my dad’s office for a company breakfast. They did a big meal for all the employees and families were invited. It was tasty and they sure had a huge spread of food. My sister stole the scratch tickets out of my dad’s stocking from the company and ended up winning $5. It was very exciting. Since Monday was Christmas Eve, there were lots of festivities still to look forward to. Jeremy and I attended a candlelight service at our church. I love when I get to play with fire in the sanctuary and sing Christmas carols with the congregation I hold so dear. After that we were off to Jeremy’s family gift exchange. We were doing something new this year – gift cards only! I walked away with a Starbucks card which was actually $5 over the limit, so I felt pretty good about that!

Christmas morning!

Christmas morning!

Tuesday was what we called a Slightly White Christmas! It had snowed early  that morning and some parts had more snow than others. I was able to sleep in a bit and then head off to my grandma’s house for the main event. It wouldn’t be Christmas morning without a stop at Starbucks. I enjoyed my peppermint hot chocolate very much! I think peppermint tastes better on Christmas. Jeremy and I arrive before the gathering had officially begun. Usually we come in on the middle of the hoopla so it was nice to see it from the start. Watching the kids open their presents is always a highlight for me. There is so much wonder, excitement and thanks! After a family meal, it was time to head back to my parent’s house to exchange presents as an immediate family. We ended the night by watching the latest Bourne movie – festive right?

December 26th has become a bit of a holiday for Jeremy and I. We took off early for Portland, OR to do our post-Christmas shopping. We don’t exchange presents anymore. We buy our gifts in each others company the day after Christmas. We get great deals and it allows to get the things we wanted on our list. Yesterday was a perfect day! We got to spend time together, get new items, and eat an amazing meal at P.F. Chang’s. Sooo good!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Toby!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Toby!

It’s hard to believe the New Year is right around the corner! The week will continue to bring more family time as we celebrate two family birthdays. These are special times and I am so thankful to each person who made the month of December so wonderful for me. I am blessed to be surrounded by loving and encouraging people. My heart is full and I hope that your Christmas season afforded you the same amount of joy as it did me.

PS –  I know you’re probably sick of me “celebrating” this and that all the time, but one more thing! Today is my Toby’s 3rd birthday! He has been a great addition to our family and I can’t imagine our lives without his sweet puppy love and adoration! Happy Birthday, Toby!

Short Days, Shortbread and Dance Parties! December 22, 2012

Filed under: Cooking Experiments,Family Time — Amy Scott @ 2:07 pm

Oh, vacation days! How they seem to fly by! This week has been a fun one and a very relaxing one as well. That is the perfect combination in my book. Yesterday was the shortest day of the year (light wise). I have many childhood memories of my mom talking about this day. It was her least favorite. She must be solar powered! My hubby was out hunting for part of the day, so for a while it was just Toby dog and myself around the house. I felt the need to explain to Toby that it was the shortest day of the year and the first official day of winter. The news didn’t seem to excite him too much. I decided to move on to bigger news. I told him that it was also supposed to be the day world ended. I wasn’t sure what time the big “ending” was going to happen, so I told him we should make the most of the time we had! I’m happy to say that the world didn’t end, at least not to my knowledge. However, I think it would have been okay it had, I mean I would be with Jesus and that’s pretty okay with me. I’m not sure how I would felt about the Mayan’s getting it right… but they didn’t. So we can all move on!

Chocolate Chip Shortbread

Chocolate Chip Shortbread

Yesterday evening we had Jeremy’s parents over for dinner and some games on the new Xbox. Jeremy had the whole meal planned out and if you haven’t figured out by now, he is the cook in this family. I’m not a stranger to the kitchen though, if Jeremy is the family cook then I am the family baker. I took it upon myself to make dessert. I went immediately to my Food Network Magazine to find a Christmas cookie recipe. I settled on a chocolate chip shortbread cookie. I’ve never made shortbread before, so I was happy to see it turned out all right and tasted great. The only thing I would change was my chocolate drizzle. It wasn’t thin enough in my opinion, so presentation wise, I think I could have done better. Oh well. Taste beats presentation in my mind.

After the meal, we played a bunch of sports games on the Xbox. It was a lot of fun to watch us all being silly as we ran in place and jumped over hurdles or what not. To end the evening we put in Just Dance 4 and had a short dance session. Jeremy’s dad just watched… I don’t blame him – watching us dance was probably the most entertaining part of the evening! Once they left, Jeremy and I kept dancing. Jeremy left after a bit to go clean up and I kept dancing… I’m not sure that was smart – getting out of bed was a little hard this morning! 90 minutes of dancing really does take it toll. It’s been a fun new game. It really is a workout! I guess it means I can keep eating Christmas goodies if I can keep dancing off the calories!

So that is what the life of vacationer has been like. I’m not sure you’ll notice, but today we will have slightly more light than yesterday! Just a few days until Christmas and we’re officially into the winter season. Time keeps flying by, but as along as it’s filled with people I love and fun activities, I guess I don’t mind too much.

Staycation December 19, 2012

Filed under: Family Time,Women in Ministry — Amy Scott @ 10:45 pm

Every year our church office closes in between Christmas and New Year. It’s always a blessing and I appreciate this time off so much. For the last few years, Jeremy and I have taken the last of his vacation days before this week off. This allows for about 2 weeks off around the holidays. I will admit that I’m like a school kid – I LOVE the Christmas break. It’s perfect for visiting with friends and family.

Lots of people have asked what we planned do with our time off. I think most assumed we would travel or something, but nope. We’re doing a staycation. It’s been so relaxing! Monday, I was able to clean my house because I had been putting it off. I  did a lot of reading as well. Jeremy is now the proud owner of an Xbox, so we did some bowling and table tennis with the Kinect. It was lots of fun just to be chill and hang out.

Monday night we also watched White Christmas and then within minutes of finishing the movie, it started to snow here. It was perfect! Both Jeremy and I love to watch snowflakes fall, so we just stared out the window in happiness. Monday night, we also put our one month free trial of Hulu Plus into action. I will now admit that I’ve joined the many who watch Downton Abbey. It’s been so good to have a new show to watch. I’ve certainly had the time this week!

Snowflake Lane!

Snowflake Lane!

Tuesday was a lot of Downton Abbey and then Jeremy, my sister, and I went up north to see Snowflake Lane! It’s a holiday music and lights show on one of the main streets by Bellevue Square. They make it “snow” every night during the show. Now, I know we had just seen real snowflakes that day, so it wasn’t quite the same thing, but it was still a pretty cool effect. It turns out that they use soap suds. I would have never thought of that. Before the show, we had a different meal at The Cheesecake Factory. We opted to eat out of the patio (in December) so we could be seated right away. They had their heaters on, but it was still cold enough to keep my jacket on while eating. It was interesting to be the street and hear the Christmas music playing and the people bustling by. It was very cold on the street for the show, so we warmed up by walking around the mall a bit and getting hot beverages at Starbucks! I have to get as many red cups as I can!

Today I did a little bit of work by having lunch with a friend to talk with her about Growth Groups at our church. It was a good lunch and I was glad for the opportunity to catch up with her and help her find a place to serve at Bethel Church. I always get passionate about encouraging people to find the right fit in the church. Serving is just so life giving. I stopped by the office to drop off some stuff and pick up a few things. It was fun to say hi to everyone and get hugs! I was quickly on my way back home to hang out with my hubby and of course, watch more Downtown Abbey.

I’m not really sure what the rest of my staycation looks like…. probably a lot more reading and maybe more fiddling with Hulu. I have a coffee date tomorrow with my network mentor. It will be a little bittersweet because it might be the last time I meet with her before she heads back to the mission field in Africa. I’ve been so blessed to get to know her. I know her prayers have been with me and mine I have been with her.  I will certainly miss my times with her. On a happier note, I hope to drive around looking at Christmas lights one of these evenings. That is something I love to do every year. As for traditions and hopes, many have been fulfilled over the last week and I’m really pretty happy and well-rested! It’s been a great staycation and I’m sure it will keep being awesome!

Christmas Weekend! December 16, 2012

Long Time Friends!

Long Time Friends!

Now I realize that you’re aware of the calender – it’s not really Christmas weekend… in fact, Christmas doesn’t even fall on a weekend this year. But – this weekend was totally Christmas all the way for me! The great thing is that even though I celebrated Christmas like crazy this weekend, there is still plenty more Christmas festivities to come.

Like I mentioned in my previous blog, Friday night was dinner with two of my closest friends from high school. I graduated in 2004 with these wonderful ladies and I’m so happy that in 2012 we’re still having Christmas dinner together. It was a great night to catch up. The three of us hadn’t been together in over a year, so it was truly a special time.  I’m so blessed by the friendship these two women have given me through the years. God has been so good to each of us and I can see his fingerprints all over our lives.

Learning a new game!

Learning a new game!

Yesterday was the big Scott family Christmas celebration. It’s not often that we get to hang out as the whole family since we don’t live in the same area. These times of all being together are so much fun! I love being an aunt and seeing the joy that kids bring to the holidays. My nephew was so much fun to watch play with his new toys. I couldn’t help but laugh when he put gift bows on his feet! What a silly boy! We played some games, opened some gifts and ate a lot of good food. At one point, I remembered that it wasn’t actually Christmas day. It just felt so much like Christmas, I had forgotten the date. This just proves my theory – it doesn’t matter what day you celebrate, as long as you’re with loved ones it feels like Christmas.

Today completed the Christmas weekend with our annual Children’s Church gift exchange. It’s so much fun to see the kids open gifts and “steal” presents from their friends. As you can imagine, it gets loud! Everyone has an opinion on what gift should be stolen or opened. I had three gifts stolen from me. Oh well… I tried. We ended the party with a group picture, candy canes for all and a Christmas trivia game. It was a great morning and a lot of fun!

I will admit that I’m a bit tired after a big weekend of partying! I think it might just be time for me to snuggle up on the couch and watch a Hallmark movie while eating leftover dinner rolls! Sounds a like a good plan to me!

Time to Party!!! December 13, 2012

I love this time of year! It seems just around every turn there is a Christmas celebration! I get to see so many people and spend time celebrating Christmas in many different ways. This week is all about partying it up! It’s been fun so far and it’s going to keep getting better!

My mouse & Aimee's mouse!

My mouse & Aimee’s mouse!

The first of the parties started last night with my class of 5th/6th grade girls! We did a gift exchange and surprisingly there was very little “stealing” in the game even though it was legal. I have a very considerate class or something like that… Silly girls! We did two holiday crafts – one was a mouse ornament made out of candy canes and the other was decorating their own gift bags. We got into the Christmas spirit by doing some worksheets to see how many could put the 12 days of Christmas in order and how other languages say Merry Christmas. I had more planned, but sadly, the adult class got done early, so we had to call it a night! I love my class Christmas party! It’s always one of the greatest nights.

Today, Jeremy and I finished our Christmas shopping! Just in time for all the celebrating this weekend! Tomorrow I have my annual Christmas dinner with two of my closest friends from high school. It’s such a good time to catch up. It’s not often that all of us get together so this is a very special treat. Spending time with these ladies really makes it feel like I’m a kid on Christmas break, just like the good ol’ days.  Saturday we are celebrating Christmas with Jeremy’s family. I have a huge pile of presents and food sitting in my office waiting to loaded into the car for our early morning trek. I can’t wait to pack up all the goodies and spend a quality day with family. In the continued theme of celebrating, Sunday is our Children Church Christmas Party! We do another gift exchanged and sing Christmas songs. It’s a lot of fun and a little chaotic doing a gift exchange with close to 50 people. Never a dull moment though, that’s for sure!

I don’t know how you’re spending your Christmas season, but I hope it includes lots of celebrating with family and friends! Enjoy those yummy goodies and gift exchanges. It really is the most wonderful time of the year!

‘Tis the season to bake! November 21, 2012

Filed under: Cooking Experiments,Family Time — Amy Scott @ 7:05 pm

My Sources!

The baking urge kicked in hard and strong this week! Must be the fact that Thanksgiving is now right around the corner and baking just seems like the thing to do! The marathon started on Sunday with banana bread. The recipe I use is out of a 1972 United Methodist cookbook that was passed from my grandma to my mom to me. We were given some left over bananas from a church function and they needed to be used before they went bad. I couldn’t eat all them so bread seemed like the most logical choice. One loaf when to a family friend and the other stayed for us!

The next project was Monday night after I got the power back on! I’ve been wanting to make my own pumpkin pie for a while now and I finally did it! I figured I had all the ingredients on hand, so why not? I used my Food Network Magazine for their classic recipe. I’ll be honest, the pie was a bit of a let down. Jeremy says it’s great, but he has a head cold so I don’t trust his taste buds. I accidentally added an extra egg so I’m not sure how it really effected it… Probably made it a little fluffier. I’m not sure about taste. I’ll try again in the future or just leave all my pumpkin pie needs to Costco.

The final project was this morning  as I prepared a dessert to take to Thanksgiving tomorrow. This was probably my favorite dessert from the trio that made last year. They are called Hello Dollies (I’ve also heard them be called Magic Bars). This recipe came out of the 2010 Taste of the Holidays recipe book. I’m already been munching on a few as I cut them and prepared them for tomorrow’s travels.

I hope that tomorrow is a wonderful Thanksgiving day for all you who frequent Amy Scott’s Thoughts. I’ll enjoying not one, but two meals tomorrow. The party starts with Jeremy’s side of the family and ends with mine! Lots of dinner rolls in my future! What a yummy and tasty time of year!

Did you miss me? November 17, 2012

I don’t know if you missed me, but I sure missed you! There were times during this self-imposed semi-media fast when I really wanted to blog! In fact, without blogging in my life, I blog in my head. I create topics and sentences and I think like I’m blogging. It’s crazy. I love it so much! It was a nice break to focus on other things, but I’m glad to be back. I now have a long list of topics and ideas that I collected while I was away. I’m ready for action!

I was able to get a lot done without being on my computer so much. Originally, I was planning on ending my fast on Tuesday, but I kept it going through this weekend. So almost 2 weeks without blogging or Facebook. As much as I missed blogging, I really didn’t miss Facebook. I got on to use the message feature, but other than that – no checking new feeds, no looking at my notifications. I was out of the loop. I will admit that I felt a little in the dark, but I figured if anyone really wanted to share their life with me they would call. My friend, Maggie, did just that and I got to FaceTime with her while she was half away across the world in Israel! It was amazing to hear her stories from her and not just read about them in a news feed.

I figured I would fill you in what I’ve been up since I had all this free time not spent in front of a screen. I’ve read three thick novels in the last week. Lovely tales of love and family. It’s been fluffy reading for me and I’ve been so relaxed and happy – like hanging out with old friends. Jeremy and I attended a Children’s Leader’s Conference over on the east side of the mountain, so that meant I got to see family that lives over there as well as connect with some great leaders. It was really fun to play with my nephew and hear him say “Aunt Mayme” or “Mimi”. I honestly wasn’t expecting him to say my name for a while and he is so close to having it down. I don’t mind being Mayme or Mimi. It warmed my heart! We played hide and seek, watched Elmo, Jeremy and his brother got him all set up with a new train set. It was sweet to watch the “big” boys playing just like little boys! :) It was great to catch up with family over the mountains and see how much our niece and nephew have grown and changed.

I’ve done some yummy baking! I made pumpkin pecan cupcakes one week for my class and cheesecake brownies the next. The cheesecake brownie recipe came right out this year’s Taste of the Holidays recipe book. TOTH, as we call it, is an annual event where ladies decorate tables at the church. Each table is served a sampler of holiday foods and given the recipes so they can do it at home. The tables are always lovely and I enjoyed sitting at my friend, Danielle’s table. I got meet many of her co-workers and it was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and eat good food!

For Missionettes this last week, we did my favorite craft of all time – Thankful Trees! The girls write on the leaves one thing they are thankful for and attach them to the branches with glue dots. Its a mess free craft that really gets us thinking. I love it and I do it ever year right alongside the girls! It’s the best!

The last big thing is the fact that eBay has taken over our home. Jeremy started selling on his stuff a couple weeks ago – mostly baseball cards and some antiques that have been given to him. We decided that enough stuff is just sitting in our garage. Jeremy now has all these goals for what is going to do with his earnings. This week, I jumped in the fray and started selling some of my childhood toys and knick-knacks. It’s amazing what I’ve saved other the  years that I thought I might want in the future. Now with some time and distance from them I was able to really decide what I wanted and what I won’t use again. I’ve decided that if my stuff doesn’t sell sooner rather than later it will go off to Goodwill. No need to keep it around!

So that’s what I’ve been up to! I know it’s not brilliant. I’ll save my brilliance for all those upcoming posts I have planned *wink*. Here is a look at my last few weeks in pictures. I hope you enjoyed the update! It’s good to be back!

Traditions October 31, 2012

Filed under: Family Time,Recollections,Simply Me — Amy Scott @ 2:56 pm

Growing up we didn’t have many traditions that we stuck to when it came to the holidays. We did most of the normal holiday stuff, but there wasn’t a sense of we-must-do-it-this-way-or-it-isn’t-a-holiday. I guess I can thank my parents for being pretty laid back when it comes to the holidays. It was all about family – seeing family and celebrating with family. That didn’t have to happen on a certain day or at a certain time. In fact, when I got married my parents told me they wanted to see us for holidays at the times that worked best for us. They understood what it meant to juggle two families as well as church commitments, so they wanted us to know that we could celebrate with them anytime. There was no pressure. It’s not about a day. It’s about a season and spending time together.

Today is a transition day for me. In October I start craving Christmas things – like listening to Christmas music and pulling out my Christmas dishes. Jeremy always tries to hold me off until the beginning of November. With a big event like Fall Fest tonight, I need to keep my head in the game and in the month of October! But tomorrow… tomorrow will be like releasing the flood gates and letting the holiday spirit just flow everywhere! Tomorrow is Red Cup Day! Where Starbucks brings out the Red Cups and starts serving their holiday drinks! I only allow myself to get Peppermint Hot Chocolates at this time of year to keep the drink special – just like how I only order Caramel Apple Spice when it’s the fall/winter. Some things are best when they are seasonal and special.

Now I’m not completely void of holiday traditions – here are a few I’m looking forward to:

  • Seasonal Dishware – For November, December and January I pull out my penguin dishes! They are super cute with skating penguins on them.
  • Shopping Trip to Portland – I love doing my Christmas shopping in Portland! No sales tax and a day with my hubby in one of my favorite cities is always the best.
  • Early morning Red Cup – I always get to Starbucks super early on Red Cup Day. It’s magical. I drink more Starbucks at this time of year than any other. I’m sure the red cups make it taste better.
  • A Special Dinner – Every year I get together with some friends from high school and we do a special Christmas dinner. It’s a time honored tradition and it keeps us together even though we don’t live in the same areas.
  • Class Christmas Party – Every year I try to plan an awesome Christmas party for my kiddos on Wednesday nights.  This night is one of the highlights of my year as teacher.
  • Decorating the day after Thanksgiving – I wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate. I think it gives Thanksgiving the special place it deserves. The next day though is free game for decorating. Some people brave the Black Friday craziness… but not me. My hubby is usually out in the wood trying to kill an animal on Black Friday, so I stay home, sleep in, and decorate my house while listening to Christmas music.
  • Good Food – It’s not the holiday season without a TON of holiday baking! I love it! Every year we make these awesome butter cookies and frost them with all the fixings! Yum!

The next two months are some of my favorite times! I know a lot of people cringe at even the sound of the word “holiday” or “Christmas” right now. I get that. I really do. I just love it so much. I want the season to last and I want to make the most every moment of it. I want to sing at the top of my lungs, make my house smells like cookies and drink too many beverages from red cups. I want to spend way too much time with family and loved ones. I want to enjoy each second of it!

As I say good-bye to October with all its color, I say hello to November and to another day, another month to celebrate God’s goodness. November – a month to focus on gratitude and the attitude of my heart. It’s a month to live thanksgiving and to live joy. These are the best days.

Oh, I should also mention that “Falling Back” for daylight savings is another reason why this season is the best! An extra hour of sleep is like heaven! It’s just as good as Christmas in my book! I’m not sure if I could consider daylight savings a “holiday” tradition, but it’s one of the best ways to kick off the season in my book.

How about you? What are you looking forward to?
