Bookish Thoughts for September
Less traveling meant more reading! After a summer of being here and there and everywhere, it was nice to settle back into life at home. The first half of my month was busy, but still manageable. I had margin in my daily calendar for walking and reading (I often do these things together). The second half of my month was quite a bit of time at home while a mix of family members went off into the woods to hunt elk. The quiet time lead to plenty of reading time. The extra reading time was appreciated because my Kindle Unlimited TBR was so, so, so long. I had a dozen new releases to catch up on! Seasonal reading is a favorite of mine and this fall has delivered with plenty of autumn-themed novels! I’m just about to wrap up the Falling for Autumn multi-author series I started in August. It’s a been a good one featuring many of my favorite KU authors.
My top fiction choice this month was This Book Made Me Think of You by Libby Page. It had been mentioned at book club multiple times and I was told I would love it. It’s a book about books and my friends know me well. I love books about books. It was sad and sweet and well-written. It’s a book to read with a box of Kleenex nearby. This book club recommendation was definitely a win.
I’ve enjoyed my return to non-fiction. What Grows in Weary Lands: On Christian Resilience was so good! It’s about faithfulness, being in the middle of your story, and holding on to what you know is true in dry seasons. The wilderness of faith can be difficult and we often talk about the super high-highs and the very low-lows, but what about those ordinary moments were you’re just putting one foot in front of the other? Warren focuses on wisdom from the desert fathers and mothers. She shares truths that aren’t trendy for our time, but have been steady through the centauries. I’ve now read two of her three books, so naturally, I have the third one borrowed from the library. I hope to read it in October!
September was a great reading month. No doubt about it! I have many books I’m looking forward to in October. I have a feeling my calendar is about to pick up again, so my reading time will probably go down a bit. I’m grateful for the time I had in September. I’ll have plenty of good books to fill in the margin moments of October! Happy Autumn Reading!
