Bookish Thoughts for February

I had some fun finds this February!!! A friend of mine recommended The Host by Stephanie Meyer and she gave me a free copy from Goodwill. I was super skeptical of this sci-fi romance… She had recommended it a few a times before, but without handing me the actual book, I probably would have never read it. Turns out, I LOVED it. It’s now one of my new favorite books and I’m currently re-reading it, because once was not enough. I even watched the movie version to do a comparison. It’s no surprise the book was better, but I still enjoyed the movie (it felt like a Cliff Notes version of the book).

I also discovered a new author this month – Melissa Ferguson. She was a recommendation from another author I follow. You might notice I have a thing about books that are about books. Melissa’s Meet Me in the Margins and The Perfect Rom-Com were books about the publishing world and aspiring authors. Her other books were also delightful. I feel like I have made a new friend in the bookish world. Inkheart and Jenny Colgan’s books were also books about books. It’s seems to a theme with me!

Other highlights of the month included adding a few more books to our home library! I went Amazon route for a few (including a pre-order of the new Hunger Games novel coming out next month). I had a Goodwill shopping outing with a friend this month as well. I found a couple of good books for myself, but I love Goodwill for adding to the boys’ library. I grabbed a couple favorites from my childhood as well some from their favorite authors. To wrap up this bookish month, I hunkered down with my home library to work on a parenting resource list for my church. It was a joy to pull favorite books off my shelves and share them with others.

Jeremy and I taught a parenting workshop at our church. Not only did I type up a book list of every parenting book I would recommend, I also raided my bookshelf and brought as many as I could to share! Books are my favorite way to research, learn, and grow. It was a joy to share these resources with other parents.
The Goodwill Haul – the copy of The Fault in Our Stars is a signed hardback in fabulous condition! Also, The Host is one of new favorite books of all time!

Owen’s pick of the month – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Graham’s pick – Hardy Boys Adventures: Deception on the Set.

Top Picks for February

Fiction: The Host captured my imagination, swept me up in the story, and left we mourning it’s completion at the end. It was the kind of book I didn’t know what to do with myself once it was over. The Perfect Rom-Com made it on to the list with it’s heartwarming story and it’s vibrant characters – think Two Weeks Notice but in the publishing world. Non-Fiction: Life without Lack was the perfect Bible study to accompany my journey through the Psalms this month.
