Amy Scott's Thoughts

Summer is flying by! July 26, 2017

Filed under: Simply Me — Amy Scott @ 2:45 pm

How is it almost the end of July? I feel like just a couple days ago it was the beginning of the month! July has been a full month for me. Lots of MOPS stuff on my plate, as well as balancing books and boys and building! This week I don’t have any book parties, so I’ve been able to slow down and use my quiet moments for MOPS or for personal rest. After finishing the Anne of Green Gables series, I read The Blue Castle and now I’m on to the Emily Starr series. As you can see, it’s turning out to be a very Lucy Maud Montgomery kind of a summer for me. I’m loving it!

MOPS has been running full steam ahead. I’ve been to the bank numerous times to try to transfer the account to my name and add this year’s finance leader. It’s been a struggle and I’ve been there more than I would like. Thankfully, I think Monday was the last time. I don’t like the bank… It’s now up there with the doctor! We’ve been having summer park play dates with friends all over Lewis County. My boys love going to all the different parks. This last weekend, we had our MOPS leadership retreat where we planned the whole year and came together a team to learn, grow and share. It was a wonderful time. I truly blessed by the team of ladies supporting me. I know that this year is going to be awesome! Yesterday, I filmed a promo video and tonight I get to talk MOPS with the adult gathering at our church. I’m taking advantage of every moment I can to get the word out. Our registration forms are out and we have online registration available this year. I have a few more things nail down before I feel fully set and ready for the fall. I have to update the welcome packet and contact potential speakers. I have some DVD sessions to watch. Tomorrow night a couple of team members and I will head up to Hobby Lobby and look for decorative elements for our theme “Free Indeed” which is expressed through geometric birds. We’ll see what we can find!

July was a bit slower month from me in book sales. I made my sales goal, but I didn’t have the same month I had before. June was insane. I’m hopeful for September/October since so many people have said they would like to host parties in the fall. It’s really an ideal time right before Christmas. I’m now out of my incentive period and I got all the rewards the offered, so that feels good. Being out of my incentive period takes some pressure off because I’m not longer working towards rewards levels (UBAM does have monthly incentives – last month I won a gym bag, this month I won a pop socket for my phone). I was already planning on taking the first two weeks of August off, but now I kind of have three weeks off when you add this week. I’m still doing a lot of follow-up and I’m active in my VIP group, but no parties means no live videos to shoot and no late nights staying up to watch for orders. It’s nice to have some down time after going so strong for 12 weeks. I think I’ll be itching to get back in the saddle after my vacation time. I really do love these books.

Jeremy has been a rock star when it comes to the property. We are all good to go and ready to hand things over to Adair. That meeting should happen at the property tomorrow at 10am. Insert happy dance here. Now that we have the well house up, we’ve spent the last few days painting it to try to find the right combination of colors to paint our house.  We have settled on Pewter Tankard for the main body, Smokey Blue for the accent color and Frosty White for the trim. Picking paint colors stresses me out so I’m glad that we found colors we like and that we agree on where they should go. Ultimately, Jeremy and I liked the same colors, but we had our ideas reversed on what should the main body and what should the accent color. After a bit of experimenting, we made a final decision. I’m glad we have the well house to play with before we paint the actual house!

And that about sums things up! Graham took a 15 minute nap in the swing today and that apparently meant he didn’t want to nap at all for the rest of the day. Both boys are finally sleeping, but nap time was hard fought today. I want to take advantage of the quiet moments and maybe start the final Emily Starr book. Wishing you all the best! I can’t wait to share more updates, especially as Adair takes over our building process and hopefully things start to move a little quicker than they have been!

Living at the Limit July 10, 2017

Sorry for the delay in this post. As you can see from the title of this blog, we’re running at 150% capacity right now. Jeremy has been working extra hard to get our property ready to hand off to Adair. He has gotten our well house ready to go and our power up and running. He has been diligent and faithful to make progress on our property and we will soon see the weight of this project shifted more over to Adair than on shoulders. It will a hard earned and welcome change! I am so grateful for how Jeremy has mastered this building process and stayed on top of all of the details. He has championed this season of building and I know we will be blessed by his efforts for years to come. He is simply amazing and the hardest worker I know!

Life for me looks very similar to the last time I posted. I’m rocking the book business and enjoying the rewards of my incentive period. I’ll officially be out of my incentive period on July 20th and I think I will have only missed one reward opportunity – which was the full kit refund. I got a half refund, but was short of the full one. Other than that, I’ve received so many rewards and bonuses for starting this business strong. I’m loving it! I’ll be putting in a big order of books in a few week for free! I love that I’m growing my home library and making money for our family. It’s truly a win-win.  Books are the best!

MOPS has been meeting in the park through the summer twice a month. In fact, we have a park play date tonight. It’s fun because the boys love to play at the park and the parents catch up. It’s been great to have dads attending our park play dates. We have more of an emphasis on family and community now that we are meeting in the evenings when both parents are off of work (most likely). I was a part of two meetings today preparing for our big MOPS kick off this fall. Our leadership retreat is in 1.5 weeks and I’m super excited for the team that God has brought together! I can see how God is bringing all the pieces together and I am in awe as it all falls into place. God is so good. The moms in our community are going to be blessed, encouraged and supported! It’s an honor to be a part of this re-launch of a vital ministry. I’m truly humbled and I’m looking forward to this fall with an expectant heart of great things to come!

The boys are loving summer time! Lots of outside play time and water fun. Owen is chatting up a storm these days and asking a lot of “why” questions. He remains a faithful helper around the house and the property. He loves being a big boy and working alongside the men in his life. I’ve had the chance to hang out one on one with Graham a bit in the last few weeks and I’m amazed at how quiet the house is when Owen is gone. It was a little sampling of what the fall will be like with preschool. Graham plays so great by himself and loves to snuggle. He had a rough week with a double ear infection and pink eye at the end of June, but he has since recovered and his back to his normal self. His eyes swelled up so bad with the pink eye that it was painful to look at him. Poor kid!

Our 4th of July was spent around the house playing while Jeremy worked up at the property. We had dinner with my dad that night to celebrate his birthday and then we came home and did a small amount of fireworks. Owen enjoyed the parachutes that Jeremy got. Graham wasn’t too into the sparklers and Owen got a spark on his face that made the sparklers a bit dramatic for a few minutes. We had one foundation firework that Graham enjoyed watching, but Owen just wasn’t sure about it. I think he liked that it had a picture of a train on the package, more than the firework itself.

Jeremy and I celebrated our 11 year anniversary on Saturday! I had a 24 stomach bug and Jeremy was up at the property working on the well house, so it wasn’t the most romantic anniversary we’ve ever had. I didn’t mind though. Progress on the property is the best gift Jeremy can give me, so I fully supported being apart. I would have taken the boys up to the property for part of the day if I didn’t have a need to stay near the restroom and the port-a-potty at the property just wasn’t going to cut it for me! Luckily, the boys were pretty understanding that I didn’t feel well and let me rest.

I’m grateful for the help and support of my in-laws as we navigate this busy season. My father-in-law has been working alongside Jeremy and had been a huge help to the building process. My mother-in-law watched the boys so Jeremy and I could go to dinner on Saturday (I was going to spend time with my sweetie even if the food didn’t like me). She watched the boys again on Sunday so I could attend a family baby shower and Jeremy could continue to work on the well house. It is a blessing to be so supported during this crazy season. Jeremy and I keep writing everything down and going over our schedules constantly to make sure we’re on the same page and nothing falls between the cracks. We have lots of moving pieces in our life and it feels a lot like a jigsaw puzzle!

While I’m sure there are more newsy details to share, I think that’s about it for now. I’ll post some pictures below and do my best to not let my posts get too few and far between. I dearly love this blog and writing is such good therapy for me. Lately, I’ve spending my free time in Prince Edward Island re-reading the Anne of Green Gables series. I read a historical fiction book called, Maud, about Lucy Maud Montgomery and it inspired me to re-read all the Anne books. When life gets draining, I refill my cup with time with Jesus and good books! Anything by L.M. Montgomery is a good book in my opinion and I love getting spending my time in Canada with my favorite characters. Even when it’s busy, I gotta keep reading! Keeps me sane!
